The Half-faced Ghost of Old Pali Road

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall
"I'm just a ghost in this house
I'm shadow upon these walls,
As quietly as a mouse
I haunt these halls."

- Allison Krauss, Ghost in This House

Tale from John Kawikonu

The desolate Old Pali Road in Kailua is haunted-and not by just any old ghost. The phantom in question is a young girl, with long black hair and only half a face, solemnly skipping rope as she floats down the street. According to eyewitnesses, her cheeks, nose, and mouth are completely nonexistent. Her eyes remain not only intact but widly bulging out of their sockets.

She is said to be the wandering soul of a murdered teenage girl, strangled by her own jump rope and left to decompose in roadside bushes. They say that her eyes protrude because this is how she appeared in her last few terrifying moments on earth, and they attribute the missing portion of her lower face to scavenging animals that had eaten it away before the body was discovered. Now she is doomed to wander forever on the Old Pali Road.
