GHOSTS OF FLIGHT 191

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall
"I'm just a ghost in this house
I'm shadow upon these walls,
As quietly as a mouse
I haunt these halls."

- Allison Krauss, Ghost in This House
Flight 191 in Trouble

On Friday, May 25, 1979 at 3:02 p.m., flight 191 started down the runway at O'Hare Airport. Everything seemed ok until just before takeoff when an air traffic controller saw parts of the port engine pylon fall off the plane and white vapor appeared. As the plane took off the entire engine and pylon came away from its mounting and flipped over the wing and landed on the runway.

Ten seconds later the plane turned to the left and fell out of the sky.

Flight 191 exploding The plane exploded into a huge fireball and hit an abandoned hanger east of a mobile home park. Two people were killed on the ground, and all the crew and passengers were killed.

Ghostly stories started soon afterward. According to the police drivers started telling about odd sights within a few months of the crash. There were white lights moving up and down at the crash site, but when the police went to investgate they didn't find anything.

By far the creepiest was what the residents of the mobile home park reported. Many of which happened within hours of the crash. The residents told of hearing knocking on their doors and windows. When they opened the doors there was no one near or around their homes. Even the dogs started barking at the field where the crash had occured.

This went on for months and reports of doorknobs being turned started coming in. Footsteps could be heard coming toward the trailers. Some of the residents even opened their doors and saw someone standing there telling then that he "had to get his luggage" or "had to make a connection." Then he would turn and disappear.

A lot of the residents moved out of the trailer park and those who moved in also reported strange things happening. One gentleman was walking his dog when a young man came up to him and said he had to make an emergency phone call. The gentleman said that he smelled like gas and even looked like he was smoldering. He turned to show where there was phone and when he turned back the young man had disappeared. Other residents had told him about hearing moans and crying coming from the site, but didn't think anything of it then.

The strange occurences still linger today. Even some of those that had relatives on the plane have told of being visited by apparitions.
