If you drive past the Dark Hallow Cemetery, located in rural Carter County, it is said that you will feel a strange bump like someone had hopped into your back seat. It is probably the spirit of a woman named Delinda, who was buried in the cemetery a hundred years ago.
The story says that Delinda was liked by all the men of the town and had many husbands-though she wasn't married to any of them herself. The wives of the town didn't like this at all and they marked her as a witch, and led to a tragic affair with a man named Jekins.
Mrs. Jenkins went to Delinda's house to deal with her but found the house empty. She went back home and shot her husband in the chest, quickly killing him. Delinda disappeared and was never heard of again. Everyone thought she left to avoid the angry mob. But after Jenkins's funeral the pallbearers said that the coffin was heavier than what it should have been, which made them think that Delinda had hidden herself in the coffin so she could be with Jenkins forever.
Shorn of a proper Christian burial, Delinda could never be at peace in the the cemetery, so her spirit is destined to haunt the road and to jump into cars as they pass. Some people have said they seen her sitting in their back seat.
