The well known American actor John McCullough is said to haunt the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. It seems that he has become a ghostly supervisor over the theatre, making sure that everything is ready for the next performance.
The story goes that McCullough and another actor had eyes for the same actress. Another says that the two actors both wanted the desirable stage role. Whichever it was they started arguing, then shouting and then shots were fired and John McCullough died beaneath the stage. Supposedly, whether in order to avoid the scandal or as a plan to get rid of the incriminating evidence, his body was taken away in the night and buried in the dirt-floor cellar under the stage.
The Washington Post, reported the strange incidence that Frederic Bond had late one night while on stage going over his cues, he heard an upsetting noise but couldn't find where it came from.
Thinking that he was just hearing things, he went back to practicing his lines. He heard the noise again but as he looked into the darkness he started thinking that someone was playing a trick on him.
All of a sudden the hair on the back of his neck rose and he felt the presence of something invisible near him. He was about to call out but he saw a strange human-looking apparition that glided across the stage and stopping just in front of him. The apparition was familiar to him, he called John McCullough's name at which the figure turned and walked away, disappearing near the wings.
